Where JCDC Releases Go

Jackson County Detention Center, often shortened to JCDC, is a county jail. It holds people awaiting court action, people serving some local sentences, and some state offenders housed through Kentucky's local-facility system. A person may leave JCDC for the community after bond, dismissal, a court order, time served, sentence expiration, shock probation, or another authorized event. The detention center may also send someone to another county jail, Kentucky Department of Corrections custody, or an authority that lodged a detainer. A detainer is a request by another authority to hold or receive the person. Those movements are continued custody, not a community release.

The record must identify the event. A JCDC booking or status-change record shows what the jail did. The court docket or signed order can show the legal basis, such as bond, dismissal, sentence credit, or shock probation. Kentucky VINE can supply a fast custody-change notice. If Kentucky DOC takes responsibility, the Kentucky Offender Online Lookup, known as KOOL, and DOC records become the proper state path. Each source answers a different part of the question.

Confirm a JCDC Release

The official JCDC page labels its roster Current Inmates. A match supports present county custody. No match is only the start of the inquiry. The jail publishes no released-person search, recent-release archive, release-date filter, or public request form. It also gives no update schedule or stated period for keeping a former inmate online. Do not convert roster absence into a release claim.

1. Check the Current Inmates page and match the full name and available identifying facts.
2. Call JCDC at 606-287-4551. Ask whether the person was released to the community, transferred, or remains under a different record.
3. Request the existing booking and release record or status-change record for written confirmation.
4. Search Kentucky VINE for a reported custody change, using the correct agency record.
5. Use KOOL when the person is a state offender, entered DOC custody, or may be under community supervision.
6. Check the Jackson County court case for the order or disposition that explains why jail custody ended.

The full named-person fallback and release-record process appears on the Jackson County released-inmate search. Federal or immigration custody requires the BOP or ICE locator instead of the county roster. A death may also end custody and must never be described as a community release without an official record.

JCDC Release Record Contact

The Jackson County Jailer operates JCDC. Kentucky DOC regulates and inspects local jails but does not operate this facility, so a request for a local booking or release record belongs with JCDC. Describe an existing record and give enough detail to locate it. A focused request can name the person, booking number if known, and a date range, then ask for the booking/release or status-change record. Do not ask the jail to research a question or create a new summary.

No county-specific release-record fee was found. Confirm the method, copying charge, redactions, and delivery options before sending payment. Kentucky's Open Records Act generally calls for a written determination within five business days, excluding weekends and legal holidays. A stored or unavailable record can take longer if the agency explains the delay and gives the earliest availability date. The law permits actual reasonable copy costs and postage, and an agency may request advance payment.

Read JCDC Release Records

Release terms have precise meanings. Bond ends the jail stay while the criminal case continues under the bond terms. Dismissal concerns the charge or case, though another hold may still block release. Time served means credited or completed custody. Shock probation is a court order moving a person from incarceration to probation. Parole is conditional release before sentence expiration. Mandatory reentry supervision is a statutory period of supervision near sentence completion. Full discharge ends the relevant custody or supervision duty.

An authorized end to custody by the agency holding the person.

Transfer

Movement to another jail, prison, or authority while custody continues.

Detainer

A request from another authority to hold or receive a person.

Discharge

The recorded end of a sentence or supervision obligation.

A useful record may include a booking number, release date, release type, releasing facility, destination or receiving authority, status changes, custody credit, and related order. JCDC does not publish a sample, so ask for the existing source document instead of assuming every field is maintained. Pair it with the court record when the legal reason matters.

Jackson Release Court Proof

The Jackson County criminal case can resolve facts the jail roster cannot. District Court handles misdemeanors and preliminary felony matters. Circuit Court handles felony cases. A docket or order may document bond, dismissal, judgment, probation, revocation, or sentence calculation. The jail record establishes the custodial action, while the court record establishes the legal authority. Neither should be treated as a substitute for the other.

For felony records, contact the Jackson Circuit Court Clerk at 100 First Street, P.O. Box 84, McKee, Kentucky 40447, or 606-287-7783. The District Court Clerk uses the same address and can be reached at 606-287-8651. Clerk hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Older trial-court files may be held at the State Records Center, but that center cannot locate them by a person's name. The Jackson clerk must first supply the case or file locator.

Note: A bond release is not a dismissal. Confirm both JCDC's release action and the court's continuing case status.

JCDC State Offender Releases

A sentenced Kentucky offender can be housed at JCDC while DOC remains responsible for the state case. In that situation, KOOL may list the county detention center as the current location. The words county jail in the location field do not prove the person is only a local pretrial detainee. Match the PID or DOC number, status, conviction county, institution or supervision start date, and current location.

After a state release, a KOOL record can remain visible because parole, probation, or conviction history persists. Read the status rather than treating search presence as confinement. DOC's dated Daily Releases archive may also name Jackson County Detention Center in its Released From column. Those files include DOC number, name, type of release, releasing institution, and highest felony class. They cover DOC-tracked events, not every local bond-out or dismissal.

Release types such as minimum expiration, shock probation, mandatory reentry supervision, and minimum/detainer reveal more than roster disappearance. JCDC Release Pickup Details

JCDC publishes no release time, weekend or holiday processing rule, exit point, waiting area, transportation plan, or release-property return procedure. That absence is an information gap. It does not show that releases occur only during office hours. Call 606-287-4551 before traveling to McKee or arranging a ride. Ask for the currently approved pickup point and whether staff can confirm an estimated window.

The facility's services page says property may not be dropped off without prior jailer approval, but it does not explain how personal property is returned at release. Direct property questions to JCDC. A court-file error belongs with the clerk or court. A mistake in a jail-created release record should go to the jail's records custodian.

No official bus stop, rideshare zone, or family waiting procedure appears on the JCDC site. Plans based on another Kentucky jail may be wrong here. Confirm local directions and do not wait in an unapproved area.

Jackson Detention Center Operations

The official JCDC site identifies a functioning county detention center in McKee. Its locally branded pages connect to a newer embedded Public Safety Cloud JailTracker interface. The wrapper matters because it calls the tool Current Inmates. Features found in another county's version of the same software cannot be assumed to exist in Jackson County.

The official services material lists GED activity, Narcotics Anonymous, parenting, Thinking for Good, Portals-New Direction, Untangling Relationships, domestic-violence classes, and several Moral Reconation Therapy tracks. It also reports two state road crews and two county crews. These are in-custody programs. They do not prove that a named person took part, finished a course, earned release credit, or received a post-release service.

The Work Release link in the facility navigation does not provide a usable public eligibility or completion rule. Confirm any person's status through the jail and controlling court record. The official program page can be reviewed at the source, and its captured view appears below.

The program list offers local context about custody operations, but it is not a release list and cannot verify a person's completion or custody status.

JCDC VINE Release Alerts

JCDC's own links page directs the public to Kentucky VINE. Search by partial name or jail identifier, match the agency and identity facts, and open the correct record. A state offender may have both a local-jail record and a DOC record. Kentucky's official guidance recommends registering on both when both apply, since a transfer can end one stream before the later state event.

VINE is a prompt to verify, not a certified release record. Agency data can lag or be wrong. A reported change should be checked with JCDC, KOOL or DOC when applicable, and the Jackson court when legal proof is needed. The alert system does not replace the booking and release document.
